It’s in! 3

After four years of work, months of late nights and working every weekend, I turned in my dissertation almost 2 weeks ago! Two Mainstreams, One School System: The Complexities of Immigrant Integration in Barcelona. Finishing was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. But I did it, and I am proud. Now it’s time to think about what’s next. Get a job in research? Teaching? Work on a writing career? Explore work in digital storytelling for kids? Something else? All of the above? The possibilities feel wide open right now…

Oh! Congratulations again! This sounds so interesting. I would love to hear more about your research and your findings. We have our own integration complexities here in Minnesota, I wonder if there are some of the same things happening?

I am so happy for you, these pictures record so much happiness and celebration! I am sure you are so glad to be done.

As for what’s next? How about a massage? Some time off? Watch bad TV? Go out with friends? THEN, I think whatever you choose to spend your time doing will be the perfect decision. I am intrigued by the digital storytelling…I would love to hear more about that. I also think you would be a wonderful writer. And a wonderful teacher. And, I am sure your research would be most valuable. So the sky is the limit!

    Woot! xoxoxo

Thanks Meg! I know you have talked about the immigrant and refugee pasts of your students before. I’ve got some posts in the works that tell more about my research.

Thanks for encouraging me to relax! You’re right of course. I’ve been reading a lot, and spending time with my baby turned toddler. And enjoying time with my husband again…we’ve watched two movies in the last week!

Yay! Congratulations! And I agree with Megsie–some time off, bad TV, and a massage. Enjoy : )
